The War

The Vietnam War occurred in Southeast Asia. Vietnam has been under foreign rule primarily by the Chinese. During the WWII the Japanese began to go weak and Vietnam tried to grow stronger independently. France soon recognized Vietnam as a "free state" within the French Union. French troops replace Chinese in the North. France started to invade Vietnam and trying to take control, but Vietnamese was not having that. The U.S wanted to hep Vietnam with there weak army, but it would start massive conflict between France and the Chinese. By 1950, the U.S started to send millions of our soldiers to fight in the war. Roughly the Vietnam War lasted for 11 years, and finally came to an end. The Paris Peace ended the conflict on January 27, 1973, and withdrawal all of the remaining American troops. Vietnamese kept the territory they had captured, released US prisoners of war, and called for both sides to find a political solution to the conflict. That is a brief summer of what caused the Vietnam war and how it ended.

The Battlefield

By 1970, roughly 25 percent of U.S. Military was living on farms or ruarl communities. There ware 7.5 million tons of bombs dropped in North and South Vietnam. The Vietnam war destroyed most of the farmland and the rice paddies. The plan of massive bombing campaign and technologie. The military soon shifted to the forests and the jungles, so it would be much easier to hide and plan attacks. Much of the interior composed of rugged mountains and pleatues. Farmers perferred a cluster in the relativley small area of lowlands.

Women Who Helped

Many people think women never impact wars and event that happen but its not true. Numerous of women served in all branches f serve as nurses, physical therapists, air traffic controllers, photographers, legal officers, etc.. About 7,484 women served in the Vietnam war, 83% were mostly nurses. 1,200 female soldiers. Women risk their life's protecting the injured Vietnam. For example, Sharon Ann Lane was the first nurse killed by enemy fire. Lane grew up in Zanesville, Ohio. She attended nursing in Canton and joined the Army Nurse Corps Reserve on April 18,1968. Lane was working in the 312th's Ward 4 when a 122mm rocket struck in and exploded. She died instantly.

Consequences

After a 11 year war, it's not like vets and the U.S military can pack up their bags and move on with their lives. Each war has a price to pay. All though Vietnam and France agreed of the Paris Peace, there were many consequence that weaken the U.S and Vietnam. The Vietnam cost the united states 58,000 lives and 350,00 casualties. The Military, especially, suffered for years, but gradually gain its strengthen back. It also resulted in 2 million Vietnamese deaths. A lot of money was spent on all the vet wounds and injuries. It weakened public faith in the government and honesty of it's leaders. A lot of soldiers were addicted to drugs, because they were used to taking them in their free time. Many soldiers had Post Tramatic Stress Syndrome. All of the crops where the battlefield was at got destroyed.

Interesting Facts

• Drugs became a problem after the Vietnam War. When young soldiers had nothing to do between battles, they had their money and wasted it on drugs. The Vietnam soldiers were addicted.


• 76% were sent to the Vietnam War were mostly lower/middle class workers.


• The average age of those that got killed were around the age 23 years of age.


• During the Vietnam War the dept increased by 146 billion.


• 74% said they would serve again even if they knew the outcome.


• two-thirds of the men in the Vietnam War volunteered.

My Reason

The reason i picked this event in History because i believed that this War impacted many lives. It also opened the U.S government eyes to stop being so willing to do anything, because it resulted in millions of deaths. It created the strongest tensions in the U.S. history. People think that women are sissy's and helpless but the women gave up their lives as well. They were willing to help all the vet's that are injured and saved millions of lives. All of the Vietnamese and American men were all hero's in some ways. Many men were willing to give up their lives to be apart of the War. This war made me change my thought of the military and army for doing what they do best because without them the whole Earth would be destroyed with conflicts and wars.
